Studio Building Theory: DIVERcITY – Community center

Floridsdorfer Markt | Vienna, Austria

supervison: Steuart J. Mackenzie Harrison | studio partner: Hannes Schachner

Starting from a discussion of selected examples of various building types, the course offers an introduction into the analysis and specification of complex programs as well as an overview of contemporary planning methods. Building typology and associated design theories are not discussed as an authoritative encyclopedia of norms and regulations, instead they are conceived as a knowhow-base for programmatic innovations and new design methods, preparing students for a critical evaluation of conflicting design constraints. Studio Building Theory trains methods to analyse and develop functional programs for specific building typologies and trains design competence.
